Jenna Jameson, the Queen of Porn

“I want to be judged by who I am as a person, not by what happened to me. In fact, all the bad things have only contributed to my confidence and sense of self, because I survived them and became a better and stronger person.” Jenna Jameson, How to Make Love Like a Porn Star: A Cautionary Tale

Jenna Jameson was born in Las Vegas. Her mother was a to a showgirl at the Tropicana and the Folies-Bergère, and died when Jameson was 3. Her father was a police officer. As a child, Jameson frequently participated in beauty pageants, and took ballet classes.

She wanted to be a showgirl like her mother, but was deemed too short. At 17, using fake ID, she applied to work at the Crazy Horse strip club. They turned her down because of her braces. She removed her braces with a set of pliers; they hired her.

After being cheated on by a boyfriend, she decided to do porn as an act of revenge. She quickly became noticed by large studio producers, which she leveraged in order to become one of the most successful porn stars in history. The founder of Vivid Pictures, Steven Hirsch, said of Jameson: “[w]hen there's a Mount Rushmore of porn, her face will be on it”.

Her autobiography, How to Make Love Like a Porn Star: A Cautionary Tale, spent six weeks in the New York times best seller list.

In 2000 she founded her own porn site, ClubJenna, and by 2005 the site had revenues $15 million. In 2006, she sold the company to Playboy for an undisclosed sum.

Jameson retired from making studio porn films in 2008, but in 2013, she started working as a cam girl.
